CETIN Networks reduces environmental impact thanks to mobile network sharing
Reducing energy consumption, environmental impact and infrastructure duplication is key to building sustainable telecommunications networks. The mobile network sharing agreement confirms CETIN Networks’ commitment to efficient infrastructure use, environmental responsibility and long-term cost optimization.
Mobile network sharing agreement
In July 2023, CETIN Networks concluded a mobile network sharing agreement with Slovak Telekom. The agreement divides the territory of Slovakia into two operating areas with approximately equal numbers of basic stations, which will be managed independently by each partner. The agreement covers the Bratislava and Košice regions.
The initiative brings
- better coverage and higher capacity - especially in densely populated and remote areas
- measurable business and environmental benefits. CETIN Networks achieves
- significant improvement in infrastructure efficiency thanks to the decommissioning of redundant sites.
Achieved savings
In 2024 alone, the shared network achieved energy savings of 2.3 GWh and reduced emissions by 822 tCO₂e. After full implementation, annual savings of 7.8 GWh and emission reductions of 2,789 tCO₂e are expected. The project also reduces the visual impact of infrastructure by removing redundant sites.

CETIN Networks and Slovak Telekom
The agreement is jointly managed by CETIN Networks and Slovak Telekom. Regulatory matters and competition protection measures were addressed in the early phases of the project. The project highlights the significance of regional cooperation and coordinated development with the goal of supporting sustainable solutions.
This agreement represents an important step towards building sustainable and efficient networks. Reducing infrastructure duplication and optimizing energy consumption not only lowers costs and emissions, but also improves customer coverage. It is clear proof that smarter engineering brings both environmental and operational benefits.
